We gave them some space to tell us about themselves, their process, and what inspires them. This is what they said:

Maggie Slater’s speculative fiction has appeared in Apex Magazine, Science Fiction World, and Redivider, among other venues. She lives in an 1800s farmhouse in New England (USA) with two half-tamed boys, one half-trained dog, her husband, her parents, and at least one benign ghost. When she has an almost quiet moment, she enjoys Haruki Murakami novels, sampling craft beer, and hoarding cheap notebooks.

I originally created this story to convince a dear friend to donate the giant stash of unused pens she'd accumulated in her house, and while it's certainly tongue-and-cheek, you have to understand how many pens she had. Like, SO MANY. Sometimes you gotta let things go. For the images, I took photos of my own stash of (USED) pens, and had an absolute blast making the black-and-white textures and elements.
