The Lovettes - Art Zine 2024

This zine was made by Savannah Monrreal a zinemaker from Inglewood

We gave them some space to tell us about themselves, their process, and what inspires them. This is what they said:

Savannah Monrreal is an old-timey cartoonist based in Los Angeles. She is greatly inspired by the aesthetics from the 1920's to the early 1960's in both her art and her fashion. Her main focus is creating narrative based work inspired by vintage aesthetics (not their values), designing charming characters of antique whimsy and crafting heartfelt (and at times heartbreaking) storylines that will resonate with her audience. She has been self-publishing her projects since her junior year of college in the form of zines, comic series, graphic novels, written prose, and storybooks.

My most notable characters/projects are Dandy Jukebox and Beau Starling (from series: Yours For The Asking and Beau On The Jump!) because they are my honorary mascots and two of my favorite aesthetics as well: vintage dandies and bellhops. Such old-timey aesthetics not only inspires my art but it also influences my fashion as well; you'll often find me as a bellhop by day and a dandy by night! ...and a salesman during business hours.
